- ProcessWorks is an authorized SEI Partner for the 3-day Introduction to CMMI for Development training course. ProcessWorks provides this course on-site and in public offerings. Successful completion of this course qualifies students to participate as team members in a SCAMPI appraisal.
- ProcessWorks develops and presents customized workshops on Engineering Process Groups, Peer Reviews, Quality Assurance, Configuration Management, Project Management, and Metrics for commercial and government clients as part of the CMMI mentoring process. These workshops are designed to be highly interactive and assist the participants in developing actual CMMI-compliant plans and procedures that are specific to their operating environments.

Course Descriptions
ProcessWorks provides the 3-day, SEI-authorized Introduction to CMMI for Development v1.3 training course. This course qualifies attendees to participate as team members in a SCAMPI appraisal. Each attendee will receive a Certificate of Completion, provided they participate in the entire course as required by the SEI.
The course is composed of lectures and class exercises, and will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss the implementation of CMMI within their organization. Topics covered in the course include:
- Introduction to Process Improvement and CMMI
- Process Improvement Concepts
- Benefits of CMMI
- Overview of CMMI
- The Model Components
- The Process Areas
- Appraisal Methods
Course Materials
Each course participant will be provided with a course notebook, which includes all presentation materials, and a complimentary copy of the book, CMMI® Guidelines for Process Integration and Product Improvement, Third Edition, published by Addison Wesley in 2011 as part of the SEI Series in Software Engineering.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of the course, attendees should understand:
The structure and fundamentals of CMMI
Key factors for institutionalizing process improvement
Class Schedule
The course duration is 3 days; 8:30 am to 5 pm each day.
CMMI Maturity Level 2 Process Areas Courses
The following classes are 1/2-day courses designed to provide the attendee with an in-depth understanding of each of the process areas at Maturity Level 2. Key topics for each course include:
- Relevant terminology
- The purpose of each process area
- Specific goals and practices
- Generic goals and practices
All typical work products and subpractices will be reviewed and discussed and their implications in an implementation addressed. These courses are recommended for anyone involved in the implementation of these practices in their organization.
Requirements Management: This process area deals with the activities necessary to manage the requirements of a project's products and to identify the inconsistencies between those requirements and the project's plans and work products. The differences between Requirements Management and Requirements Development (a level 3 process area) will be addressed.
Project Planning: Project planning encompasses all the activities around developing the project plan, interacting with the stakeholders appropriately, getting commitment to the plan, and maintaining the plan. New practices (e.g., the data management plan) will be stressed and the relationship between the specific practices and the generic practices will be explained.
Project Monitoring and Control: The activities in this process area deal with providing an understanding of the project's progress so that appropriate corrective actions can be taken when the project's performance deviates significantly from the plan. The various types of reviews necessary to this undertaking will be discussed.
Supplier Agreement Management: This process area primarily applies to the acquisition of products that are delivered to the project's customer and for which there is a formal agreement. The various types of formal agreements will be reviewed as part of establishing supplier agreements and satisfying supplier agreements.
Measurement and Analysis: Measurement and Analysis, a new process area for CMMI, addresses developing and sustaining a measurement capability that is used to support management information needs. Measurement objectives, data collection and storage procedures, and analysis procedures will be reviewed and discussed.
Process and Product Quality Assurance: The Process and Product Quality Assurance process area supports the delivery of high-quality products and services by providing the project staff and managers at all levels with appropriate visibility into, and feedback on, processes and associated work products. The differences between process audits and work product audits will be addressed as well as the differences between process audits and other types of reviews.
Configuration Management: This process area addresses the four standards of configuration management: configuration identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audits. These will be discussed in the context of how they are used to establish and maintain the integrity of work products.
